Borussia
Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is set to reject the approaches of Arsenal,
Manchester United and Real Madrid and sign a new deal at the club, according to
the player’s agent.
Irfan Gundogan
– who is also the 22-year-old’s father – has revealed that it is too soon for
the Germany international to move away from Westfalenstadion and will get his
son to pen a new contract.
“I am keen to
ensure he (Ilkay) remains with Borussia Dortmund,” Gundogan senior was quoted
on Sky
Sports.
“He is doing
fine so it’s a bit early to move to a club in England or Spain at this point in
time.
“Borussia
Dortmund will be coming up with an offer of a new contract soon. We will be
able to oversee things much better then.”
It’s the
second time this summer that the player has had to have his commitment to the
Bundesliga runner-up reiterated, with the Gunners, Madrid and United all
sniffing around the talented midfielder.
Gundogan has
been impressing much of Europe’s elite following a £4.8m switch to Dortmund in
2011, which was immediately followed with a German league title that season.
The past two
terms have seen the German really excel for the club and he was a key member of
the Champions League campaign last season – playing all but one of Dortmund’s
matches on the road to eventual defeat in the final at the hands of rivals
Bayern Munich.
Gundogan
will have to battle to get into the Dortmund side in the upcoming season
however, with strong competition in central midfield from the likes of
Sebastian Kehl, Lars Bender and Nuri Sahin.
