Arsenal
have launched a £42.5M
bid
for Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid on transfer deadline
day
The
Gunners are understood to have had a £42.5million bid accepted by the Spanish
giants - but rumors on Monday morning suggested Manchester United had entered
the race.
Gunner’s
boss Arsene Wenger said in the aftermath of Sunday's 1-0 victory over
Tottenham: "It is a little bit like a domino game. Maybe something will
happen in the last 24 hours, maybe not. It is very difficult to predict, but
maybe we can surprise you."
Arsenal
are hoping to take advantage of the 24-years-old after the Gareth Bale’s move
to the Bernabeu from north London rivals Spurs.
The
Gunner’s believe Selling Ozil would allow Real to recoup almost half of Bale’s
fee immediately. And it would allow the Germany international to seek
first-team football that is likely to be increasingly limited after the world
transfer record arrival of Bale.
The
24-years-old, signed for Real from Werder Bremen in 2010 in a deal worth around
15m Euros but may find his chances of first-team football at the Bernabeu
limited by Gareth Bale's world-record signing.
Reports
initially suggested that Manchester United would battle Arsenal for Ozil’s
signature, but it now seems that the champions will not be pursuing the former
Schalke and Werder Bremen man.
