Swansea
manager Michael Laudrup has dismissed the possibility of Arsenal signing
Spanish superstar Michu with a late swoop this summer, declaring that not only
was the player not for sale, it is far too late in the window now for the club
to even think about entertaining offers as it would be impossible for them to
replace him.
There
were rumours in the press earlier this week that Arsenal had switched their
attention from Luis Suarez to Edin Dzeko and Michu after their pursuit of the
Uruguayan had seemingly hit a dead end.
However, it appears that the Gunners
are unlikely to land either player with a rejection in their pursuit of Dzeko
yesterday quickly having been followed by Swansea refusing to sell their prized
asset.
Former
Barcelona and Real Madrid star Michael Laudrup had this to say about Arsenal's
reported interest in Michu, "I know if they (Arsenal) came in with a very
late bid, I know that the reaction from the board and chairman will be 'No',
even if the money is ridiculous, as we will not have time enough to find a
replacement who is near enough to the same standard. You can say we would get a
lot of money but why be the richest club in the championship? What is that
worth?
Laudrup
added, "I spoke to Michu last year and he extended his contract and asked
me about mine and I said 'I am going to stay here', and he said, 'So am
I'."
