Mathieu
Flamini is training with former club Arsenal. He left the Gunners five years
ago on a free transfer to join Italian giants AC Milan and has made the
opposite switch back, however only for training purposes.
His
contract expired this summer and although AC Milan offered a new contract of
two years to the midfielder, the Frenchman declined the offer, opting for a new
challenge.
“Milan
offered me a contract for two years but I need to take my time and make the
right decision.”
His
move back to Arsenal for training is no hint that a contract will follow as
Arsene Wenger has often allowed former stars back to return with Thierry Henry,
David Bentley, Robert Pires and Sol Campbell all being allowed back as well as
former
The
midfielder has hinted he would be open to a move back to Arsenal after enjoying
his first spell with the club.
“I’ve
been in Italy for five years, I’ve had a great time and learnt a lot but I miss
England and I want to win the Premier League.”
“It
has a special place in my heart. I like the pace and the physicality of English
football and I like that every game is very open.”
Flamini’s
time at Arsenal only saw him become an established first team player in his
final season but offers what the current squad is lacking. The club are in
desperate need of a holding midfielder and Flamini wouldn’t cost a penny.
